Overseas & Immersion Programs
Students of foreign languages are encouraged to improve their language skills by participating in one of the many study-abroad and overseas internship opportunities offered through Portland State and the Oregon State System of Higher Education.  Programs ranging from one term to a full academic year are available in several foreign counties, including China, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, Russia, and Spain (you can refer to the "Study Abroad" section of the Bulletin for a comprehensive list of countries available).  The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the University's Office of International Education Services will counsel and assist students in integrating their overseas experience with their courses of academic study.

Deutsche Sommerschule Am Pazfik
Graduate credits in German earned through the Deutsche Sommerschule am Pazifik can be accepted as in-residence credit at Portland State University only if taken after formal admission to the M.A. in Foreign Language program in German, or to the M.A. in Foreign Literature and Language. Graduate credit earned at the DSAP prior to admission to either program is normally limited to 15 credits, in accordance with the University's transfer regulations.
For more information, click here.

An M.A. degree in German earned solely by attendance at the Sommerschule normally entails four summers' work plus thesis.

IE3 Global Internships
Earn academic credit at PSU while gaining professional experience in another country. Internships are available around the world through Oregon's unique IE3 Global Internships program. Internships range in
duration from 10 weeks to 6 months. Areas of professional focus include environment, education, international relations, art and culture, NGOs, journalism and communication, and health and social services. For more information, click here.

The Portland State Russian Immersion program in Stephen Epler Hall is an
intensive Living Learning Community open to all students who are intermediate to advanced speakers of Russian (approximately third-year level Russian or above).
Residence here is also very appropriate for students from Russian families and native speakers.  It is a small community of students whose goals are to expand their
opportunities to speak Russian beyond the classroom and to share in related activities that are coordinated by the participants with the Russian-speaking TA and Resident Assistant.
