Turkish for Tots

"Turkish for Tots" (T4T) was formed in the Fall of 2003 with the initiative of the Turkish Language and Culture section in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at PSU. During the next three years when the program was active, it aimed to teach or maintain and improve the existing Turkish language skills of Turkish-American children living in Portland. During 2006-2007 academic year Turkish for Tots halted its activities temporarily.

During the time it was active, T4T instruction included songs and play. Participants' ages generally ranged between 24 months to 7 years. Based on class size and activity plan, children were sometimes grouped into two as older and younger kids. Class met once a week on Saturdays. Typically a parent accompanied the participating tot. Parents took turns providing snacks, and based on need, participated actively in instruction.

" Turkish for Tots" represents one of the ways through which the Turkish Language and Culture section at PSU reaches out to and connects with the local community.
